Today we already have cloud storage so if someone steals your PC that has a strong encryption program like Veracrypt for example, you can still access your data from the cloud storage and continue your work, and the thief will have an impossible task to accessing your content if you have a very strong password and so on.
This cloud storage I think that will continue to exist and improve, because by many is considered safer than local storage.
Local storage can be stolen or damaged, but in the cloud you will get RAID backup (or something with the same role) far away from your location.
Many people avoid cloud storage because they are afraid that the content will be accessed by other people, for example the government.
Today not all the companies use the proper cloud encryption solutions, but as time passes by they will improve this, to get more users.
Today we store only files in the cloud, in a few decades we will store brain content.
Doing a brain content backup for personality and memories in the cloud, will become as normal as doing a restoration point for the operating system in today lives.
