Let’s say that we are in 2040 and being in fully immersive virtual reality is something normal for most world citizens.
You don’t put a helmet and a suit, you just connect your brain to the PC.
Black hat hackers might want money or just revenge.
So when you are there, they take control of your world, input and send malware into your brain.
So you get from the beautiful world to a simulated world made by hackers, that could be the phishing of the future VR’s.
So from the simulated surface of Mars, you get in a prison made by the hackers and they scan your brain with there tools until they obtain the information’s needed, if you don’t tell them the info without torture.
They might simulate that you are out of VR and that you just need to pay a bill and in reality you are in the VR and give them the password to your funds.
People will want to pay easy and fast, so many will probably prefer not to use a thing like a token in present to generate a code that authorize the fund use.
If they can maintain you connected to the false server enough, they might even transfer all your brain info.
Tools to protect sensitive information’s from being transferred over the Internet directly from your brain probably will be created, but hackers will search for ways to avoid the transfer detection, maybe by encrypting information at your end and send them encrypted so the security software can’t see what is transferred.
But the security software can see to what server is transferred.
If it is not to a medical center IP, the transfer might not be allowed by the security software.
But what if the DNS servers have been compromised and your PC asks for let’s say X Clinic.medical and they say that other IP is for that, than your security software might think that it’s ok because the DNS server says it’s ok, but in reality it’s not.
So white hackers will recommend that in the world to exist a number of IP’s that do not change for more DNS servers, so when you want something, your PC interrogates a few DNS servers and will use that IP only if it sent from all those DNS servers to lower chances of a false IP to be sent.
Today we have https, in the future we probably will have something similar to assure us that strong encryption is done regarding the transfer.
We think that today that viruses and other malware are a threat from the data you have in your PC, wait to see the future and the new ways of getting a lot more than you have in your PC.
Protocols will be made to help citizen avoid such situations, but the bad people will find new ways to put in practice there plans.
